THE final of the maiden edition of the Remi Olowude
Memorial Kids Cup for U-12 boys youth clubs in Lagos will hold on the 26th
April, 2016 at the Campus Mini Stadium,
Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Grassroot Soccer
Association, the competition is being organised to mark the 65th posthumous
birthday of late Dr. Oluremi Andrew Olowude, born 65 years ago on April 26,
1951.
"Government alone cannot carry the burden of sport
development in this country, hence we decided to contact the Late Remi
Olowude's family to contribute their quota in sponsoring the U-12 boys
category.
"We took into consideration the role played by the
late great icon before the proposal was made to further immortalise his good
name," the association said.
Representative of the sponsor's family, Andrew Olowude
said they are happy to be associated with such event which is geared towards
giving opportunities to young and talented football players in the country.
"In terms of grassroots this is where we are trying
to come in and help influence the youths and improve the quality of football
and the quality of football academies that we have in the country.
“This is the first
edition and I can assure you that it will be a yearly one by the grace of God.
We are committed to the development of the game of football and we are ready to contribute
our quota to a great extent so that others will be influenced to come out and
support football at grassroots," Andrew said.
Twenty four (24) male teams registered for the
competition which is already at the quarter final stage.
The winner of the competition will be rewarded with the
sum of N300,000, while the second placed team will go home with N200,000. The
third and fourth placed teams will get N150,000 and N100,000 respectively.
