Rabiu Ibrahim, Madu, Kalu celebrate Slovakia Cup victory

NIGERIA internationals, Rabiu Ibrahim, Kingsley Madu and Samuel Kalu are in cloud nine after helping AS Trencin to win the Slovakia Cup following a 3-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the final played on Friday.

A brace from Gino van Kessel and one goal from Stefan Maierhofer saw the Slovakia champions come from a goal down to win their third Cup title.

Ibrahim and Madu featured for the entire game at the City Arena Trnava in Trencin’s second successive cup win, while Samuel Kalu was a 66th minute replacement for goal scorer Maierhofer.

Aliko Bala was an unused substitute, while Christopher Udeh was not listed for the match.

Last season, Madu and Ibrahim also helped Trencin win the Cup with the midfielder netting in the first half.

Trencin are currently top the Slovakian Fortuna Liga with 72 points, six points better than second-placed Slovan Bratislava, who they only just defeated in the cup final.

An excited Ibrahim posted pictures of the team’s celebration of his Facebook page with the caption, “Champions of the cup again. ALHAMDULILLAAH”.

Kalu, who has been in fine form for the club of recent, told supersport.com after the game that he will not forget the cup title in a hurry.

“I’m very happy and excited at winning my first trophy in Europe in my first season here. I give glory to God for this particular favour and I will keep working hard to win more titles for my team.
 
“I felt really happy holding the cup after the game. Playing in the final was exciting too. I want to dedicate this cup title to my lovely family back home in Nigeria who have been very supportive. This cup is dedicated to them.”
