NIGERIA internationals, Rabiu Ibrahim, Kingsley Madu and
Samuel Kalu are in cloud nine after helping AS Trencin to win the Slovakia Cup following
a 3-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the final played on Friday.
A brace from Gino van Kessel and one goal from Stefan
Maierhofer saw the Slovakia champions come from a goal down to win their third Cup
title.
Ibrahim and Madu featured for the entire game at the City
Arena Trnava in Trencin’s second successive cup win, while Samuel Kalu was a
66th minute replacement for goal scorer Maierhofer.
Last season, Madu and Ibrahim also helped Trencin win the
Cup with the midfielder netting in the first half.
Trencin are currently top the Slovakian Fortuna Liga with
72 points, six points better than second-placed Slovan Bratislava, who they
only just defeated in the cup final.
An excited Ibrahim posted pictures of the team’s
celebration of his Facebook page with the caption, “Champions of the cup again.
ALHAMDULILLAAH”.
Kalu, who has been in fine form for the club of recent,
told supersport.com after the game that he will not forget the cup title in a
hurry.
“I’m very happy and excited at winning my first trophy in
Europe in my first season here. I give glory to God for this particular favour
and I will keep working hard to win more titles for my team.
“I felt really happy holding the cup after the game.
Playing in the final was exciting too. I want to dedicate this cup title to my
lovely family back home in Nigeria who have been very supportive. This cup is
dedicated to them.”
