SUPER Falcons
star Asisat Oshoala is confident Nigeria will beat the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal
in the second leg of the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifier
scheduled to hold in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Nigerian
Women Football team played out a 1-1 draw with Senegal in the first leg of
the qualifier at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, Dakar on Friday.
The reigning
Africa Champions had hoped to secure victory away but it was not to be as they
were forced to share the spoils with their hosts.
"It’s
not over yet, we all should understand how it works as away games is not easy
its African football. We tried our best and got an away goal which is most important.
“I am
confident we shall beat the Senegal ladies in Abuja. Football is a game that
put smiles in the faces of Nigerians and we ready to do this for Nigerians,” the
Arsenal Ladies forward said.
Substitute
Chioma Wogu who replaced an injured Desire Oparanozie, netted on the brink of
half time to hand the Super Falcons a narrow lead against the host going into
the break.
However,
seven minutes into the second half, Senegal rallied for an equalizer to still
keep the game open going into the second leg.
The return
leg will take place at the Abuja National Stadium on Tuesday from 4 p.m.
Winners over
the fixture’s two matches will advance to October’s AWCON scheduled for
Cameroon.
The Falcons
are seven-times winners of the competition which is now in its 10th edition,
with Equatorial Guinea winners of the other two editions.
