IT was a mixed feeling for Nigerian International, Leon
Balogun after featuring for Mainz in the German Bundesliga match against
Cologne last weekend.
The Super Eagles defender scored his first goal in the
elite division since joining the Bundesliga side from SV Darmstadt 1898 on free
transfer in summer of 2014, but ended up on the losing side as they were beaten
2-3 at home by Cologne.
“Still mad about the defeat but that's just football
sometimes! Maybe just in time to get us in the right mood for the derby!!!
“This won't take away the happiness about my first goal
in Bundesliga though. #M05FCK #ChildhoodDreamCameTrue#TheStoryGoes #Derbytime
#LB”, the 27 year old said via his Twitter handle @LeonBalogun.
Jhon Cordoba gave the hosts the lead after just seven
minutes and Leon Balogun appeared to have sealed the points for the Champions
League hopefuls shortly after half-time when he headed in a Daniel Brosinski
cross.
But a superb Marcel Risse drive grabbed a goal back for
the visitors and Milos Jojic equalised after 73 minutes, staying just onside to
turn in a Yannick Gerhardt cross-cum-shot for his first league goal of the
season.
Modeste completed an incredible turnaround for his side
by racing on to a lofted Matthias Lehmann pass to smash a low volley past Loris
Karius with seven minutes to play.
