CHUKWUEBUKA "Wise King" Ezewudo, a middleweight
boxer billed to make his professional debut at GOtv Boxing Night 7 on 1 May,
has proclaimed himself the new king of Nigerian boxing.
Ezewudo, one of the discoveries at GOtv Boxing NextGen Search,
is billed to fight fellow GOtv Boxing NextGen Search alumnus, Ganiyu
"Energy" Kolawole, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium,
venue of GOtv Boxing Night 7.
Asked if he understands the gravity of his proclamation,
the Anambra State-born boxer said he understands that the claim is a huge one
to make, but that he has the ability and determination to match it.
"I am a debutant, no doubt. But my faith in my
ability to be king of boxing in Nigeria is very strong. I know I am good and
sadly for my opponents, I will get better. I will be the king of Nigerian
boxing and then conquer the world," he said.
On his impending clash with Kolawole a.k.a Energy,
Chukuwebuka said he was told that his opponent has been boasting, a fact that
surprised him.
"I am surprised that he has been boasting. I am a
boast buster and will make him regret ever boasting that he is a great boxer.
When I beat him, he will publicly announce that it was a mistake to provoke me
with empty boasts," he raved.
The event, which will have five other bouts, is headlined
by the national lightweight title fight between Oto "Joe Boy" Joseph
and Nurudeen "Prince" Fatai, the incumbent champion.
In the heavyweight category, Ebenezer "Anambra
Tiger" Okoli is lined up to fight Abiodun "Finito Wonder"
Afinnih in a challenge contest.
The light welterweight division will be lit up by the
clash between Rilwan "Baby Face" Babatunde, yet another product of
the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search, and Tope
"Berinja" Agboola.
Idowu "Noble Cabasa" Okusote will swap punches
with Chibuzor "Chibunky" Vincent in the cruiserweight category, while
Osamudiamen "Shiso" Goodluck and Rilwan "Real One" Oladosu
will do battle in the lightweight division.
Conceived to revive boxing in the country, the event is
sponsored by GOtv and supported by MultiChoice, Paragonis Multimedia Limited, KSquare
Security, newsbreak.ng, Brila FM, Bond FM and SuperSport. Supersport will
broadcast it live in 47 African countries.
