Plateau Utd hit Giwa FC 2-0 in Jos derby

PLATEAU United came out tops in the first Jos derby in five years as they beat Giwa FC 2-0 in a pulsating game at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos on Sunday.

United were the designated home side in the Match Day 11 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie as both sides use the stadium for their home games.

El-Shittu Lawal continued at left-back for Giwa FC despite Chris Madaki’s availability and shone like a million stars albeit his side lost the game.

There was also a début for veteran goalkeeper Danladi Isah for the Plateau United who prior to the game did not keep a clean sheet since their return to the top-flight.

Plateau United’s Ingbede Sunday had the first real chance of the game but blazed his free-kick wide as Amos Gyang kept the United back-line busy with his mazy runs down the flanks for Giwa FC.

Benjamin Turba put United ahead in the 63rd minute of the second half to set the ball rolling for a famous win over their neighbours.

Ingbede put Plateau United 2-0 ahead two minutes after Turba’s goal to somewhat revenge United’s Plateau State FA Cup loss to Giwa FC last weekend.

United will run out 2-0 winners on the day with all points in the bag and their first clean sheet of the season to boot.
