WBC CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: Durodola lands in Latvia ahead of Briedis fight

WORLD Boxing Council Silver Cruiser-Weight champion, Olanrewaju ‘Gods Power’ Durodola has arrived Lavia ahead of the WBC Cruiser-Weight title eliminator fight against Mairis Briedis, Sportsbiz247 reports.

The event will take place on Saturday May 14 at 12,000 capacity state of the art Ice Hockey 'Arena Riga' with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger for the vacant WBC Cruiser-weight title against the winner of the Tony Bellew/Ilunga Makabu fight which will come up later this year.

The Nigerian boxer posted pictures he took with his coach, Adefemi Babafemi and their bodyguards in Latvia on his Facebook page on Tuesday with a message, “The Gods Power in Latvia to take care of business."

Speaking to SportingLife before leaving the country, Olanrewaju said he was in top shape and confident of victory.

"I would like to thank my coaching and management crew for pushing me this far. I am 100 per cent ready for this fight," he said.

"It has been a long time dream of mine to fight for the world title and I'm very excited i am almost there. I respect Briedis, but my respect for him will end in the first round, and I don't think he will be the title challenger on Saturday anymore," he told SportingLife.

Durodola enters this fight with a 22-2 record that includes 20 knockouts. Last November, the 35 year old shocked the boxing world by defeating crowd favorite Dmitry Kudryashov with a second round TKO in Kazan,  Russia to win the vacant WBC Silver cruiserweight title.
