SUPER Eagles striker, Aaron Samuel is a potential doubt
for Nigeria’s double header international friendlies against Mali and
Luxembourg after suffering an injury in CSKA Moscow 1-4 home loss to Zenit St.
Petersburg in the final of the Russian Cup on Monday.
The Nigerian international was substituted three minutes after
scoring CSKA’s only goal of the game played at the Kazan Arena.
Brazilian striker, Hulk opened scoring from the penalty
spot in the 34th minute before Samuel leveled up for the host in the 36th minute. The Nigerian
striker got injured minutes later and was replaced by Kirill Panchenko in the
39th minute.
Hulk then put the visitors ahead in the 63rd minute also
via a penalty. Alexander Kokorin increased the tally for Zenit in the 56th
minute, before Artur Yusupov completed the rout in the 70th minute; as the
gamed ended 4-1 at full time.
Super Eagles vice-captain, Ahmed Musa was also in action for
the entire duration for CSKA; but still couldn’t make any impact for the
Red-Blues.
Samuel has so far racked up 7 caps and 2 goals for the
Nigeria since 2014. He scored the two brilliant goals for the Super Eagles in
the 2015 Cup of Nations qualifying race – against Sudan in Abuja and against
Congo in Pointe Noir.
The former Guangzhou R&F of China striker is among
the 25 players invited by the country's interim head coach Salisu Yusuf for the
warm-up games.
The Super Eagles play Mali in France on May 27 before
facing Luxembourg on June 1.
