THE Nigerian female national basketball team, D’Tigress on Friday lost
68-56 points to Turkey in Istanbul in a warm-up game which serves as preparations for the Rio 2016 Women Olympic Qualifying Tournament WOQT scheduled for June
13-19, 2016 in France.
D' Tigress captain Helen Ogunjimi was the highest scorer
for the Coach Scott Nnaji side with 15 points.
Powerful forward/Center, Atonye Nyingifa has nine points and four rebounds to her credit, Uju Ugoka was able to record eight points, three rebounds with three assists, while Ezinne Kalu got six points six rebounds and three assists.
Friday’s game is one of the warm-up matches to prepare
the team for the Olympic qualifying tournament. Both teams will face-off again
on Saturday.
The team will also square up against Argentina on June
8-9 in France, just a week to the Olympic qualifier in another friendly match.
The Nigerians claimed a third-place finish at AfroBasket
Women 2015 to secure a place at the WOQT.
The Nigerian girls have been drawn in Group C of the
qualifiers along with Belarus and South
Korea and they will open their WOQT campaign on June 13 against Belarus.
