SUNSHINE VS ABIA WARRIORS: Police arrest, detain two fans for pitch invasion

THE Ondo State Police Command has arrested and detained two fans, namely Mr Ademola Abanikanda and Mr Segun Aforiti following their incursions into the pitch after the week 20 NPFL match between Sunshine Stars and Abia Warriors.

President of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Prince John Ola Mafo who ordered the immediate arrest of the fans condemned in strong terms the attitude of the fans.

According to Prince Mafo who is also the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, (ODSFA) the fact that the match officials were alleged not to have carried out their duties in a professional way as stipulated by the league organizers, LMC, by ensuring fair officiating did not give the right to any fan or group of individuals to take laws into their hands.

“It must also be noted clearly that none of the two fans or spectators is a supporter of Sunshine Stars as being speculated.

“It is instructive to note that the replica jerseys and official wears of the team are sold and bought by interested members of the public.

“We also like to put it on record that no player or official of Abia Warriors was harassed before, during and after the game as we also secured a win in Umuahia and we were not harassed as well.

“The Sunshine President also uses this medium to call on all supporters, fans and stakeholders to always support the team without any act that could hinder the development of the game of football and at the same time jeopardize the progress our darling team, Sunshine Stars.

Prince Mafo appreciated the efforts of the LMC towards transforming our league and making our football more attractive to the outside world.
