Stoke City release Odemwingie

STOKE City have released Nigerian international, Peter Odemwingie after deciding not to renew his contract, sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

Odemwingie heads a list of eight professional players who will depart the bet365 Stadium when their contracts expire on 30th June.

The 34 year old ended last season on loan at Bristol City after falling down Mark Hughes's pecking order.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City forward chalked up 31 appearances for the Club during his two and a half year spell in the Potteries, chipping in with five goals - all of which came in the second half of the 2013/14 campaign.

Another senior player, Steve Sidwell and six of the Under-21s squad have also been released following the expiration of their contracts, whilst Austrian ‘keeper Daniel Bachmann, Liam Edwards and Johnville Renee-Pringle have been made contract offers to stay with the Club.

One scholar, Lewis Banks, has also been offered a new deal after impressing at Under 18 level.
