RIO OLYMPICS: Omeruo awaits Chelsea approval

By Akeem Lawal                                                                                                                                     NIGERIA international, Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that he still awaits approval from Chelsea before representing the country at the football event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

The Super Eagles defender who is eligible to play as an under-age is in the 35-man provisional squad named by the Nigeria Under-23 team coach Samson Siasia for the Pre-Olympic training tour in the United States of America, reports sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.

The 22-year old revealed that he has already spoken with the Dream Team coach about his availability, but will have to wait for the final decision from the London club.

“Chelsea has the power to decide if I will go to the Olympics or not, I’m still waiting for approval because I’m said that I want to represent Nigeria. I have discussed with Coach Samson Siasia already and I’m just waiting for the approval from Chelsea and I don’t think it will be hard," he said.

If eventually released by Chelsea, Omeruo will be making his first appearance at the Olympic Games with Nigeria having failed to qualify for London 2012 when he was 19.
