By Akeem Lawal NIGERIA international, Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that
he still awaits approval from Chelsea before representing the country at the
football event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
The Super Eagles defender who is eligible to play as an
under-age is in the 35-man provisional squad named by the Nigeria Under-23 team
coach Samson Siasia for the Pre-Olympic training tour in the United States of
America, reports sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
The 22-year old revealed that he has already spoken with
the Dream Team coach about his availability, but will have to wait for the
final decision from the London club.
“Chelsea has the power to decide if I will go to the
Olympics or not, I’m still waiting for approval because I’m said that I want to
represent Nigeria. I have discussed with Coach Samson Siasia already and I’m
just waiting for the approval from Chelsea and I don’t think it will be
hard," he said.
If eventually released by Chelsea, Omeruo will be making
his first appearance at the Olympic Games with Nigeria having failed to qualify
for London 2012 when he was 19.
