DSTVPBL: Kano State Sports Commission receives victorious Kano Pillars

THE 2016 DStv Premier Basketball League champions,  Kano Pillars Basketball Club on Wednesday presented the trophies and various individual sports awards won at the just concluded Final-8 in Lagos to the Chairman Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima (Galadiman fagge ).



The awards were presented to the commission's boss by the Kano Pillars Basketball Association Chairman, Wamban Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

Kano Pillars defeated Nigeria Customs 71 – 53 points in the  2016 DStv Premier Basketball league Finals which took place in the indoor hall of the National Stadium, Lagos last weekend.

Kano Pillars won the Finals with veteran player, Abubakar Usman amassing 24 points and 9 rebounds while his teammate, AbdulWahab Yahaya scored 13 points and had 9 rebounds.

With the victory, Kano Pillars, which has now won its 5th title having being previously crowned champions in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014 and Nigerian Customs, will represent the country in the Africa Club Championship.

The trophies and awards presented includes  the over all trophy, the Most Valuable Player award and the Best three point shooter award won by Abubakar Usman, the most assist player award won by Ibrahim Yusuf. Other awards are the best rebound player award received by Dele and Top  5 players award received by Abdul Yahaya and Abubakar Usman respectively.

Also present at Wednesday's presentation are members of the Kano Pillars basketball team, Kano State Sports Commission Admin. Secretary Alh. Aminu Mohammed Hakimi, Head of Department Planning and Training of the commission Mohammed Abdu, DD Bashir Ahmed Mai Zare, members of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter and other stakeholders.
