WBA World Title: Ekpo ready for Zeuge challenge after weigh-in

NIGERIAN boxer, Isaac Ekpo, will mount the ring for his first world title shot as he comes up against hard-hitting German, Tyron Zeuge, in their World Boxing Association (WBA) super-middleweight clash at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Brandenburg in Germany on Saturday, March 25.


Ekpo and Zeuge had their weigh-ins on Friday in Brandenburg and are now ready to fight on Saturday.

WBA "regular" super middleweight champion, Zeuge, who is ready to do some damage, weighed in at 167.5 pounds. The German fighter will defend his title for the first time, which he won last year after knocking out Italian veteran Giovanni De Carolis in the twelfth round.

On the other hand, 34 year old Ekpo, who trained in Ghana for the fight weighed 166.4 pounds. He occupies the third place of the WBA ranking in his division and will fight for the first time for a world title. However, the Nigerian has not known defeat since 2013 and has a string of 7 victories by knockout.

24 year old Zeuge has a record of 19 wins, a draw and 11 knockouts, while Ekpo has won 31 bouts, lost 2, and knocked out in 24 fights. This bout was ordered by the WBA World Championships Committee.


The officials for the contest will include supervisor Jesper Jensen from Denmark, referee Raul Caiz Jr. from United States, and the three neutral judges have been set with Pawel Kardini from Poland, Juan Manuel García from Spain and Rafael Carabaño from Venezuela.
