Onazi hopes to be fit for Burkina Faso friendly

By Akeem Lawal
SUPER Eagles defender, Ogenyi Onazi says he hopes to be fit for Monday’s international friendly match against Burkina Faso after the injury he sustained during Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Senegal on Thursday night.

The Trabzonspor of Turkey defender, who captained the Super Eagles against the Teranga Lions, got the injury in the 25th minute of the encounter after Mame Biram Diouf of Stoke City clattered into his back with dangerous knee challenge. Onazi was stretchered off and was replaced by John Ogu.

However, the injury might not be as bad as first feared as the 24 year old was spotted watching the remainder of the match at the stands while sitting beside injured goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Onazi, who uploaded less than a minute video of the challenge by the Senegalese on his Instagram page immediately after the match, expressed appreciation to his fans for all the get-well-soon messages.

“Thanks for all your messages everything is under control hopefully will be fit for Monday game by his grace God bless. #supereaglesofnigeria 💪🏿💪🏿🇳🇬,” the former Lazio midfielder said via @onaziogenyi.
