Gata dedicates first ABS goal to late uncle

ABUBAKAR Bukola Saraki (ABS FC) Ilorin forward Adeshina Issa Gata has dedicated his first goal for the club in a 1-0 victory over visiting Katsina United in match day 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday to his late uncle, Alhaji Abdulmuis Olayinka Salam.


Gata, a former Kwara United youngster beat the offside trap to score his first goal in seven appearances for his new club in the 25th minute of the interesting tie decided at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The lucky supporting strike who was drafted to the wing by Coach Henry Makinwa, followed two blocked shots to score the only goal of the game.

In a chat with SportingLife, Gata, who wore jersey No 13 commended his team mates for putting up a remarkable performance to ensure the victory.

"I thank Almighty God for giving me the opportunity to score my first goal which came at the right time. I've been looking forward to it and I am glad that it gave us the deserved victory. I must commend my team mates for working so hard for the win.


"I like to dedicate it to my late uncle, Alhaji Abdul Salam. He really tried for my family when he was alive. He was one of those that encouraged me when I started playing football. We really missed him and I pray he continues to rest in perfect peace," Gata said.
