GOtv Boxing Night 11: Organisers promise adequate security

FLYKITE Productions, organisers of GOtv Boxing Night, have promised adequate security in and around the Indoor Sports Hall of the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, venue of the 11th edition of the event holding on 26 March.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director of Flykite Productions, said arrangements have been concluded to ensure adequate protection of fans coming to the event.

“There is nothing to fear. We have always ensured that fans and their properties are safe in around the venue. Since 2014, when the event began, we have not had a single breach. One of our partners is the leading private security firm in the country. The firm has a lot of experience in handling big events of this nature. We seize this opportunity to tell fans that they will watch top class boxing in a safe and secure environment,” said Alumona.

Alumona added that GOtv Boxing Night is being held outside Lagos because there is a need for other states to enjoy what Lagosians have been enjoying since the event began.

“Ibadan, as you know, has a long association with boxing and it is the base of the legend, Dele Jonathan. Part of the history was created by the late Chief Francis Aiyegbeni, who was a strong supporter and promoter of the sport. Ibadan’s association with boxing sure must count for something,” explained Alumona.

GOtv Boxing Night 11 will feature seven fights, the biggest of which is the West African Boxing Union (WABU) title defence by Nigeria’s Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph from the aspiration of Ghana’s Anma Dotse.

Another big fight will see WABU light welterweight champion, Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi, an Ibadan indigene, fight Sunny Yao. Ibadan-based light middleweight star, Akeem “Dodo” Sadiku will fight Kazeem ”KC Confidence” Saka, while Sadiq “Happy Boy” Adeleke will take on Taiwo “Twin Warrior” Kareem. Adewale “Masevex” Masebinu will fight Kabiru “KB Godson” Towolawi in a lightweight challenge duel.

Also in the light welterweight category,  Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde will duel with Waliu “Oganla” Arogundade.

The best boxer on the night will win a N1million cash prize and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.

The event, sponsored by GOtv, with the support of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, MultiChoice, Brila FM, KSquare Security, Paragonis Multimedia Limited, Bond FM, Complete Sports, ZetaWeb and Newsbreak.ng, will be broadcast live on SuperSport in 47 African countries.
