ONE of the final day fixtures in the Nigeria National
League, NNL that would draw much attention of soccer fans is the encounter
between promotion favorites Katsina United and Kogi United.
The expected nerve wrecking match is billed for Saturday
at the Karkanda Stadium, Katsina with 4pm the kick off time.
The hosts Katsina United have been favorites to claim the
sole ticket from the Group A1 with their quick fire performance into the
season.
The boys of Coach Bashir Sadaoki have garnered five
points on the road (a win and two draws) and have recorded hundred percent
records at home putting them second on the log with 23 points behind Mighty
Jets who currently sit top with 24 points.
While Kogi United will be guest to Katsina United, table
toppers Mighty Jets will be away to Jigawa Golden Stars in Hadejia.
For Kogi United, it's more of a formality match for the
Confluence State club having confirmed
their stay in the second tier division with victory from their last match (Kogi
United beat FC Yarmalight 2-1 last week).
Top striker for Kogi United, John Jerome said United was
ready to play for pride and could be spoiler for their hosts' promotion party.
Jerome who scored five goals for Kogi in the outgoing
season noted that his side are fired up to revenge for their home loss against
Katsina in the first leg.
"A lot of things on our minds with this game, we are
ready to play Katsina United with relaxed mind but with total focus and
motivation," begins Otukpo born goal poacher.
"We knew they are favorite to promote but it's not
over yet as they must work for it, we are in Katsina to avenge for our away
lose in the first leg, it's been a season of mixed feelings for us, we didn't
get what we expected but we still thank God for another chance to push for promotion
come next season, but we promised to end this well with a good result from
Katsina on Saturday," Jerome said.
Katsina United midfielder Christoper Lolo has expressed
confidence that his side had already planning life in the apex league (NPFL) of
the country as they aim for total victory over their last opponent, Kogi
United.
Kogi United are fourth on the log with 18 points from 13
matches.
