PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Nigeria’s
team for an outstanding performance at the Paralympic games in Rio, Brazil.
According to a press statement signed and issued by Malam
Garba Shehu, the President's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, President
Buhari joins all sports-loving Nigerians in commending the athletes for doing
the country proud by winning 12 medals and setting new records, which made them
the top-performing African team at the 2016 games.
“The President extols the resilient spirit of the
Nigerian Paralympic athletes, who were able to excel in the face of adversity.
“President Buhari applauds the athletes for their
tenacity, focus and determination, which has brought glory to the country.
“The President also extends gratitude to all the
officials and trainers of the Paralympic athletes, who made sacrifices and
persevered to fly the country’s colours. #Paralympics,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the second batch of Team Nigeria to the
Paralympic Games in Rio arrived the country on Monday evening.
As it was done to the first batch which returned to the
country on Sunday, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Supporters Club and other
stake holders and well wishers were also on ground to give the second batch of the victorious
team a heroic welcome.
Team Nigeria to the 2016 Paralympic games won a total of
8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals to place 17th.
