NIGERIAN Basketball star, Chamberlain Oguchi has joined
Mexican team, Soles de Mexicali from Polish club, Anwil Wloclawek.
Founded in 2005, Soles de Mexicali is a Mexican
professional basketball team based in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico playing
in the Northern Division of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP).
The D’Tigers shooting guard who was part of the Team
Nigeria basketball to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil had several offers
from other European teams before leaving the Polish Basketball League to put
pen to paper for the two-time LNBP champions.
Head coach of
Nigeria's senior men's basketball national team, Will Voigt has however
congratulated the team’s star player on his new move and believes the Mexican
club is lucky to have one of the best in the game on their payroll.

Voigt said on his official Twitter handle, @CoachWillVoigt.
Also the Twitter handle of the Nigerian national basketball
team, @NigeriaBasket while hailing Oguchi said, “Congrats to @ChampOguchi on
signing with @clubsoles (Mexico) yesterday! #OguchiSaluteToMexico”.
Oguchi has played for D’Tigers at the 2006 FIBA World
Championship, and the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
At the 2015 FIBA Africa
Championship, the 30 year old led Nigeria to their first ever AfroBasket title,
defeating Angola 74-65. He led the team in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per
game and for his impressive performance throughout the tournament, he was named
Most Valuable Player and Best 3-Point Shooter.
The former Gran Canaria of Spain small forward was also
named, with Al-Farouq Aminu, into the All Star Five of the 2015 Afrobasket in
Tunisia.
