CHELSEA face an anxious wait
before learning if Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel will be on the club’s injury
list at the Stamford Bridge.
The 29 year old was injured in
Nigeria's 1-0 victory over Tanzania in the final 2017 Africa Cup of Nations
qualification game at the Nest of Champions in Uyo on Saturday, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
Though the nature of Mikel’s
injury was not disclosed, Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr however said the
team skipper was replaced in the second half by K.R.C. Genk midfielder, Wilfred
Ndidi as a precautionary not to aggravate it.
Mikel who inspired the Nigerian
Under 23 side to a Bronze medal outing at the recently ended Olympic Games in Brazil
is yet to feature for the Blues this season.
In his absence, Chelsea have
enjoyed a great start to the season under new manager, Antonio Conte, winning their
opening three Premier League matches and also overcame Bristol Rovers in the
EFL Cup.
The former Lyn of Oslo
midfielder is already looking forward to link up with the London club after
Saturday’s victory over the Tanzanians courtesy of Kelechi Iheanacho’s 78th
minute strike.
“Three points with the
@NGSuperEagles ... @67Kelechi rocket! 👊🏿 Now
back to Chelsea #CFC”, he said via his Twitter account.
It is to be seen if the Nigerian
international will be available for Chelsea as they travel to Wales to face
Swansea this Sunday before a crunch home clash with Liverpool.
