Troost-Ekong eyes Champions League spot with Gent

SUPER Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong is hoping to help his Belgian side, KAA Gent to secure UEFA Champions League ticket when they take on Club Brugge in the final game of the season on Sunday, sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.


The Nigerian international was in action for 90 minutes as Gent defeated Zulte-Waregem 5 – 2 at the GHELAMCO-arena on Thursday night to secure Europa League place after placing 3rd on the log with 41 points, just a points below second placed Club Brugge.

Anderlecht are already runaway title winner on 49 points but Gent and Club Brugge will be fighting for the second Champions League ticket at the Jan Breydelstadion Stadium.

While celebrating the victory over Zulte-Waregem, Troost-Ekong who will be looking forward for his 8th appearance this season, believes his side is up to the task of picking the Champions League ticket.

“We did it! Europa league next season. Now we fight for Champions League Sunday! Thanks for the top support in the last home match. #BUFFALO”, he tweeted @wtroostekong.


The 23 year old has already been called for Nigeria’s two international friendly matches against the senior national teams of Corsica and Togo ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Uyo next month.
