Kogi Utd are Kogi State FA Cup champions

.Beat FC Lokoja 2-0 in final

KOGI United FC have again proved their supremacy over their city rivals FC Lokoja as with a 2-0 victory to defend the Kogi State FA Cup.


A goal in each half secured the 2017 FA Cup for the Confluence state club.

United dominated the game through the entire duration as FC Lokoja could only produce rare moments of threat.

After series of missed opportunities and brilliance in goal from FC Lokoja goalkeeper, Adisa Wale, Kogi United took the lead in the 22nd minutes through former FC Lokoja winger, Salisu Tanko who scrambled in the ball from Thomas Acheneje’s low cross.

United maintained dominance and could have increased their lead afterwards through chances from Adewumi Femi, Adegbayo Ayuba and Acheneje who had their efforts saved by lanky keeper, Wale.

It was a similar situation in the second half with Kogi United in full control of the game as the midfield combination of Ayuba, Michael Bolaji and Idris Muye makes it difficult for their opponent to gain access past the middle.

The controlled of possession for the boys of Coach Tunde Abdulrahman paid off with two minutes after the hour mark after Bolaji fed Muye with a through pass in the final third, the combative midfielder rounded keeper Wale before rolled in the ball and threw the fans into wild jubilation.

FC Lokoja could only get a shot on target with just five minutes to end the game after substitute Umar Abdulmumini shoot straight at Kogi United keeper, Ogundare Detan.

Kogi State Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Comrade Arome Adoji who presented the trophy to Kogi United captain, Ismaila Mayaki congratulated both sides for their wonderful performances just as promised government’s continued support to make the state proud at the Federation Cup.

Man of the match, Idris Muye expressed satisfaction with his side’s triumph which he described as perfect response to their recent dip in form.

He however called for patience from the club’s teeming fans and supporters that the club would make them proud in their subsequent games.

“We are happy to win this cup, it means to me and the team, our performance today showed we’ve moved a step up from other games, this is a response that we want to win all games and I hope this give us confidence for others game.

“We want our supporters and fans to please keep believing us, nobody will like to lose match, whether home or away, we will continue to work hard and make them proud,” Muye said.

Both Kogi United and FC Lokoja will represent Kogi State in the 2017 Federation Cup.
