Osun Utd win Osun State FA Cup

OSUN United Football Club defeated Ede United Football Club 5-6 on penalties to win the 2017 Osun State FA Cup after full time ended 2-2.


The highly interesting encounter, which brought out the best out of the two teams with the Omoluabi Giants playing with more confidence and creating most chances.

Victor Okeji, put Osun United upfront in the 13th minute after dribbling past two of his markers and his strike beat Kayode Babatunde in goal for Ede United off an assist from Tosin Omoyele.

Ede United responded immediately with Afolahan Tunde, getting an equalizer for the Timi Agbale Boys in the 16th minute.

The goal gave Ede United more confidence in the game with Afolayan and Francis Odudu posing threats with their pace.

In the 29th minute Omoyele set up Okeji, and his low drive shot went side net to end the first half 1-1.

Osun United captain and mercurial midfielder Hakeem Olalere, restored his side lead in the 50th minute nodding in a corner kick from Obasi Chigozie.

Sodiq Tunde then leveled up five minutes later for Ede United with a sublime finish.

Osun United came stronger and played with maturity, dominating possession with Omoyele hitting the woodwork off a set piece from Obasi in the 76th minute and Alaji Rasaq blast over a strike from a close range in the added time.

Osun United won 5-6 on penalties after seven kicks with Kehinde Adeyemi losing a kick for Osun United, while Hammed Sakiru and Tijani Ismail lost two Ede United kicks.

Speaking with newsmen after the game, Osun FA boss, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, expressed optimism that the both sides will go places in the national Federation Cup, stressing that the state is blessed with abundant talents.
