Sunshine Stars sign 10 players, Eguavoen confident of survival

By Akeem lawal
SUNSHINE Stars Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen has hinted that his major focus is for the team to finish the Nigeria Professional Football League season as high as possible.

The former Super Eagles coach who believes he has quality players that can help the Akure based side survive relegation this season, also revealed that has he has signed 10 new players who are ready to give their best to the team’s aspiration.

The Owena Waves are 15th on the table with 24 points going into the second round of the NPFL 2016/2017 season.

“There are different coaches with different philosophy and there are also clubs with their budget. You cannot compare Real Madrid budget with Osasuna. In the same vein you can not compare Manchester United budget with West Bromwich Albion. But sometimes when West Brom play against teams like Arsenal and Manchester United, it becomes difficult to beat them.

“So we will work with what we have right now. We’ve brought in 10 new players and five are already available for use. We only used one against Rangers and mind you, the quality of the league has improved and still improving. So based on what we have, that is how we are going to plan our games.

“So far, I believe they are good quality enough to survive, next season we can now plan and see how we can challenge for the title,” said the former Enyimba and Gombe United handler told Sports Zone, a Lagos based radio station sports programme.

Meanwhile, Eguavoen enjoyed his first success with Sunshine Stars as he led the team to beat Moyero FC 2-0 in the final to retain the Ondo FA Cup title.
