.As goalkeeper apologises to fans
By Akeem Lawal
REMO Stars head coach, Fatai Osho has refused to blame goalkeeper
Chizoba Ndukwe following his team's 1-1 draw with Lobi Stars in a Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) match played at the Gateway International Stadium
in Sagamu on Sunday.
Ndukwe spilled Kingsley Eduwo's shot to the path of
Anthony Opkutu for a simple tap in to score the equaliser in the 48th minutes.
Osho feels that the stopper should not be singled out for
their failure to defeat Lobi Stars.
“A football team is like a system where everybody
contributes to achieve the result. How did the ball gets through to the
goalkeeper, somebody supposed to do the marking and he’s not doing his job. To single
him out is not really good, let’s look at the team that we didn’t do well in
that area.
He added that he is satisfied with the performance of his
team despite dropping points at home.
“I’m highly impressed with what the players did and
normally it should have been two months preparation. But trying to come in with
another style within a week is not really bad and we cannot look at the team as
if the whole world is collapsing, no. What I can assure you is that with time
this team will start getting better with every passing week. The points we are
losing now, we are still going to get them back.
The man in question, Chizoba Ndukwe has however expressed
disappointment over his goalkeeping error.
"I felt so bad because something of this nature has
never occurred in my career, I thought to myself to know what went wrong in the
cause of the game but its part of the game.
"I have been with the team for over two years plus now
and I have also been the number one man for the team, the error throws me off
balance but I tried controlling my emotions on the field. I heard so many complaints from the fans as regards
my error after the game but I wasn't just myself.
"I also want to use this opportunity to appreciate
my Coach, Fatai Osho, his words of encouragement has really assisted me to
overcome the thoughts of my error.
"I have learnt my mistakes. I know by the grace of
God, I won't make such mistakes again. One thing is to make mistakes, the other
to correct the mistakes immediately and never allow it to happen again.
"My fans aren't happy with me but I am pleading with
the fans not to be angry with me and I promise it won't happen again. All I
need from you all are your prayers and support," Ndukwe said.
