SUPER Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr says there
are no truths in reports making rounds that he has set a limit to the number of
players to be invited from the Chinese League.
Brown Ideye became the latest Nigerian export to the
Chinese Super League, joining Super Eagles duo of captain John Obi Mikel and
Odion Ighalo to bring to five the number of Nigerian players who have moved to
the Far East since January.
Rohr was then reported to have warned that players based
in Europe are going to be considered ahead of China-based when it comes to
selection of players into the national team.
However, in a series of tweets by the Super Eagles
official Twitter handle on Thursday, the national team coach said despite
having a very good and cordial relationship with the media, he was surprised
when he read the report as he never granted any interview to make such
statement.
“My attention has been drawn to a story quoting me as
setting a limit on number of players to be invited from the Chinese League.
“I do not know where this statement credited to me came
from. I have had a very good and cordial relationship with the media.
“I know the media are very important partners of our
football development and have a huge role to play in our success as a team.
“It's not good for me to get use to seeing stories
credited to me that I do not know anything about or read words I never said.
“I therefore implore our media friends to be more
professional in this regard so we can together get Nigeria football to the
top,” Rohr said via @NGSuperEagles.
