Ikeme suffers hip injury, doubtful for Algeria tie

By Akeem Lawal
Nigeria has been handed a huge blow ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria as Super Eagles No. 1 goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme suffered a hip injury during Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Ikeme who has started all the 15 games this season was replaced in the 46th minute by England international, Andrew Lonergan after picking up an injury in his acrobatic save before half-time.

Immediately after the encounter, Wolves took to the tea’s official Twitter handle to confirm Ikeme’s injury.

“Carl Ikeme had a hip injury which Rob hopes isn't too serious. Pleased to see Andy Lonergan make a positive impact when he came on,” the club said via ‏@OfficialWolves.

The Nigerian is however hopeful the injury is not serious.

“We deserved at least a point and lads all dug in. Hopefully injury nothing too serious. Congrats @_DaveEdwards great goal and performance 🙌🏾,” he said via ‏@Carl_Ikeme
