Bet9ja Nationwide League One Super eight competition will
kick off on Tuesday with interesting fixtures to be decided in the cracker
billed for Agege Stadium, Lagos.
Enyimba Feeders FC
of Aba will go up against Federal Road Safety Corps Football Club of Abuja by
12noon, Bida Lions FC of Niger State will tackle Papilo Football Club of Owerri
by 2.pm, while My People FC of Lagos will face FC Abuja by 4.pm.
AS Racine FC of Lagos, were drawn bye as Yobe Desert
Stars of Damaturu, withdrew from the tournament due to unwarranted
circumstances.
The teams have all set their sights in booking a place in
the semi-finals due for Thursday October 27.
The Super 8 is the last agenda on the calendar of the NLO
for the season and will determine the winner of the league among the eight
promoted teams to the Nigeria National League.
Six out of the eight clubs are privately owned except for
Yobe Desert Stars sponsored by Yobe State Government and Enyimba Feeders being
sponsored by Abia State Government.
Speaking with newsmen after the draws FRSC head coach,
Akinade Onigbinde, has stated that the Super 8 will prove a massive test for
his side's ambition to have an excellent performance in the NLO.
Onigbinde, said he has told his players to have
self-confidence and determination with the mindset of getting to the finals and
winning the competition. He said all the eight teams stands a better chance to
reach the finals.
My People gaffer, Yusuf Tiamiyu, faces a huge task with
FC Abuja but, Atia as the coach is fondly called, is adamant his side are
stronger and stand a chance of progressing to the semi finals and stated
further that he really has good feelings about their tie against FC Abuja.
However, the NLO Interim Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa
Gusau, at the Press Conference disclosed that the league body has invited four
clubs in the NLO within Lagos (Spartans FC, Colins Edwin FC, Destiny Boys FC,
and Goodland FC) to add glamour to the Bet9ja NLO Super 8.
Gusau commends Bet9ja for partnering the NLO for the
Super 8 and seek for more collaboration to enable the league to record lots
more success.
Bet9ja Head of Marketing, Tunji Meshioye, said his firm
decided to partner NLO to help develop grassroots football and promised they
will continue to support football at the grassroots level so as to discover
outstanding players that will form the bedrock of our national teams.
Ex-international, Maureen Madu, the owner of Watty Energy
Drinks, one of the NLO partners, said she decided to give back to the
constituency that made her, by giving value in kind to the winners.
NLO Executive Secretary, Olusola Ogunnowo, while speaking
said a giant trophy will be won by the overall winner, as there will be Gold,
Silver and Bronze medals for the best three teams.
Ogunnowo, further stated that there will be awards for
the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper and a Fair Play Plague.
