SUPER Eagles captain, Mikel Obi is delighted to be
nominated for the 2016 CAF Africa Player of the Year award alongside compatriots,
Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released a
list of 30 players for this year’s award and included the three Nigerians last
weekend.
Among the players also on the list include: Algeria and
Leicester City forward, Riyad Mahrez, current Africa Player of the Year,
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and Borussia Dortmund, Cote d’ Ivoire and
Manchester United defender, Eric Bailly and Mohamed Salah of Egypt and AS Roma.
Mikel skippered Nigeria at the recent Rio Olympic Games,
playing six games as the Dream Team VI won the bronze medal. Musa on the other
hand shone at Russian champions CSKA Moscow before his big-money move to
Leicester City in the summer, while Iheanacho enjoyed a breakthrough season
with Manchester City and has also established himself at full international
level.
While reacting to the nomination, the Chelsea midfielder
said he is proud to be on the list with both Musa and Iheanacho.

🇳🇬 🇳🇬 🏅”, he said via @mile_john_obi.
The 2016 CAF Africa Player of the Year award ceremony will
be held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on January 5, 2017.
