GOtv Boxing Night 8: King vows to punish Afonja Warrior

REIGNING national middleweight champion, Sunny "King" Hammer, has vowed to severely punish his challenger, Abolaji "Afonja Warrior" Rasheed, when they clash for their national title fight on 30 July.

The clash, which is the headline bout of GOtv Boxing Night 8, will hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos. Hammer, champion since 2001, described his opponent as a novice in boxing.

"I have successfully defended my title since I won it. I could have defended it a few more times, but nobody wanted to pay me what befits a champion until GOtv came on the scene.  Afonja or whatever he is called is not the man to stop me. I will prove to him that I am way ahead of him in this sport," boasted Hammer.

GOtv Boxing Night 8, an edition specially dedicated to the memory of Muhammed Ali, the legendary heavyweight champion who died on 3 June, will feature five other bouts.

The light welterweight division will have two national challenge bouts. One will feature Olaide "Fijaborn" Fijabi, the national champion, taking on Joseph "Blacky Joe" Adeniji, while the other will feature Rilwan "Baby Face" Babatunde against Shakiru "No Shaking" Lateef.

The welterweight category brings together Stanley "Edo Boy" Eribo and Dele "Lagelu" Adeleke. The super middleweight clash between Matthew "Wizeman" Obinna and Samuel "Lion Heart" Igbokwe completes the line-up.

Sponsored by GOtv, which will be broadcast live by SuperSport in 47 African countries, is supported by MultiChoice, Paragonis Multimedia LImited, KSquare Security, Complete Sports, Brila FM, Bond FM and  Newsbreak.ng.
