SUPER Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong has congratulated the players who made their official debut for the senior national team during the international friendly against Togo on Thursday night, sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

Three goals in under half an hour, including a brace by Leicester of England’s Ahmed Musa and a goal from Kelechi Iheanacho steered the Super Eagles past the Hawks at the Stade Municipal Saint Leu la Forêt stadium in France.

A total of ten players made their debut including Ekong’s central defence partner Chidozie Awaziem, Premier League bound Henry Onyekuru, Dutch-born Nigerian footballer, Tyronne Ebuehi, Olanrewaju Kayode, Victor Osimhen, Mikel Agu, Dele Alampasu and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) trio of Sikiru Olatunbosun, Stephen Odey and Ibrahim Alhassan.

The former Tottemham Hotspur defender is however honoured to put on the captain’s armband following the substitution of the games captain, Elderson Echiejile, who made way for MFM forward, Stephen Odey in the 87th minute of the encounter.

“3-0 win tonight against Togo. Congrats to the boys making their debut today. Honoured to wear the captain band for my country at the end. 🇳🇬”, he said via his verified Twitter account @wtroostekong.

The Super Eagles were using the match as preparation for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against South Africa.

Nigeria will host Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on the 10th of June 2017.
