A total prize money of N1,750,000 will be won at this year’s edition of the Olympic 5-a-side Tournament.
Disclosing this in Lagos on Tuesday, Category Marketing
Manager, Olympic Milk, Raphael Agbaje said over 250 teams with over 4,000
participants will feature in this year’s edition of the tournament.
According to Agbaje, the competition which would be held
in eight cities; Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja, Owerri, Kaduna, Kano and Enugu,
will officially kick off in Lagos on November 2 and 3, 2016 before moving to
the remaining cities in search of raw football talents.
Breaking down the prize money, Agbaje said the winning teams
from each city will be invited to Lagos for the qualifiers at the end of which
the first, second and third positions will be rewarded with the sum on N1
million, N500,000 and N250,000 respectively.
He also said the MVP will win an all-expense paid ticket
to the Etihad, home of Manchester City FC to have a full match experience.
“Our sponsorship of the Olympic 5-Aside tournament was
inspired by the need to create a platform to engage and support young football
talents who have energy and passion for the game and seek the right exposure.
“The maiden edition held last year recorded a huge success
with over 2,500 participants across different cities in Nigeria with De Royal FC
coming out tops at the finale. This year, in partnership with Intu Sports and
Neo Media and Marketing, we are taking it steps higher and extending
participation to cover two more cities. Like it was done last year, each team
is expected to purchase one carton of 400grm Olympic Milk Powder to register
starting from September 6,2016.
“So we hope that
in a few years from now, we would have produced worthy football ambassadors who
will shine the Nigerian light on the world stage,” Agbaje said.
