THE Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) has
called on boxers not older than 25 years of age to participate at GOtv Boxing
NextGen 2, starting in Lagos on Wednesday.
Speaking in Lagos on Monday, NBB of C General Secretary,
Mr. Remi Aboderin, explained that the talent hunt programme provides an avenue
to get into the professional cadre.
“Another big opportunity is here for boxers who are ready
to turn professional. Any such boxer has the chance to come for sparring and
assessment for possible selection by the coaches, some of whom are the best in
the country. Selected boxers will have their professional boxing licences paid
for by the sponsors. This is a sign of encouragement, so I urge our young
boxers not to miss this opportunity,” Aboderin said.
GOtv Boxing
NextGen Search, which began in February, is a programme conceived to create a
steady stream of young and talented professional boxers in the country. It
holds from 17-19 August at the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame Gym. The programme is
holding in partnership with the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame and NBB of C.
Meanwhile, GOtv subscribers were among numerous football
fans, who converged on the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos,
for Super Sunday, an event held to mark the start of the new Premier League
season in England. Two matches were
beamed live on giant screens installed in the hall.
The first was Bournemouth vs Manchester United, marking
Jose Mourinho's return to English football. The second was the blockbuster
clash between Arsenal and Liverpool.
In attendance was John Barnes, football pundit and former
Liverpool star, and Victor Ikpeba, former African Footballer of the Year, both
members of the panel of studio pundits.
