NIGERIA female wrestler, Hannah Reuben says she has fully
recovered from the injury that prevented her from participating in the Spanish
Grand Prix held last month in Spain and now ready to compete for medals at the
Rio Olympics.
The Brazzaville 2015 All Africa Games silver medalist who
did not make the trip to Spain with other six Olympic-bound wrestlers after
failing to recover fully from a minor injury she sustained in training prior to
the competition, told SportingLife that her focus now is to win gold in the
69kg on her Olympics debut.
"I would have loved to be part of the team to the
Spanish Grand Prix because it would have been an avenue to test myself ahead of
the Olympics. All the same, it's okay and God knows best," Hannah, who was
part of the Team Nigeria that departed the country for Rio on Monday said.
"Right now I am fully fit and preparing hard for the
Games. I train twice daily and ready to represent my fatherland.
"I am excited going for my first Olympic tournament
and I am optimistic about it. It is a dream of every athlete to be at the
Olympics because it is the highest sporting event in the world. My target in
Brazil is to come back with a gold medal which I believe is possible to achieve,”
Hannah, who qualified for the Rio Games after winning gold at the
Africa/Oceanic qualifiers in Algiers told SportingLife before the Team’s departure.
The six other wrestlers that will represent the country at
the Games consist of four female: Mercy Genesis (48kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye
(53kg), Aminat Adeniyi (58kg), Blessing Oborududu (63kg) and Hannah Reuben
(69Kg) as well as two male; Amas Daniel (65kg) and Soso Tamarau (97kg).
