SALEH KARATE OPEN: 100 karatekas undergo seminar

Over 100 karatekas were engaged in  a demonstrational workshop and  interactive sessions in the opening day of the third edition of Hajiya Zainab Saleh International Female Karate Championship which got underway at the Multi - purpose indoor hall of Sir Molade Okoya Thomas of the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Wednesday.


The seminar which was attended by children and adults of all ages, grades and styles was conducted by Japanese instructor, Sensei Tomiko Mitsuoka who is an  8th Dan, the highest karate ranking in the world.

The sponsor of the championship, Hajiya Zainab Saleh a 4th Dan Shotokan karateka in a chat with SportingLife after the morning session of the workshop appreciated the effort of the World Shotokan Karate-De Federation, Nigeria Chapter’s Chief Instructor, Sensei Bob Bamgboye for facilitating the coming of Sensei Tomiko.

"It was fantastic listening to Sensei Tomiko during the first day of the seminar and I believe many of the karatekas here will learn one thing or the other."

Hajia Saleh who also doubles as the  Technical Director  of the Lagos State Karate Association called on the media to come to her aid to give adequate publicity that will create the necessary awareness needed for the numerical  growth of the championship.

According to her  more participants will be encouraged and motivated to participate in the championship which in turn helps to woo multinational for sponsorship and finally place the event on the International scope.

The seminar continues today while the main championship begins tomorrow (June 3) at the same venue.
