MIGHTY JETS 1-0 KOGI UTD: Afolabi sees bright future despite loss

KOGI United Captain, Abiodun Afolabi is optimistic that his side will end the season on a high note despite the one nil defeat suffered against Mighty Jets FC in the Week Two of the Nigeria National League, NNL encounter played on Saturday.


The explosive match played in Jos saw Coach Ishaya Jatau led team conceded an early minute goal via Abdullahi Kabiru's 10 minutes free-kick beat keeper Shola Sheshere

Kogi United had a chance to level the score line in the 17th minutes, but John Jerome's tap in effort was waived offside.

The Yahaya Bello boys dominated the proceedings in the second half but were denied by Jets keeper, Gubum Mutiu who make four saves to deny United from scoring.

Afolabi who rued his strikers' missing chance said mother luck ran out of United even he expressed confidence on his chances to achieve greatness this season.

"Very unfortunate we lost this match, its hard luck and painful, we shouldn't have lost this game despite our spirit effort, but we were unlucky to score those chances, the right-back stated.

He added "I'm confident we have a great future this season, the team has a great potentials and honestly, we will get good results this season," Afolabi said.

Coach of the Confluence state club, Ishaya Jatau who echoed his captain's thought said he would have swapped his side's impressive performance for positive result, adding that the team would do better this season.

"I'm happy with my boys' display here, I knew it won't be an easy game, but the boys made me proud with their game, I'm very confident this club will go places, we will just need to be more focus and determined, by God's grace we will get it right," Jatau said.

Mighty Jets' handler, Baldwin Bazuaye said his side were lucky to win the game as Kogi United gave them tough challenge just as he believe the Jatau Boys have a great future.


Kogi United with three points will play continue their quest for points on the road with another away fixture against Sokoto United next weekend at the Gingiya Stadium.
