Confluence coach faults officiating in Rivers Angels defeat

CONFLUENCE Queens Coach, Shola Ibrahim Adewuyi expressed dissatisfaction with the level of officiating by the centre referee during the team's 2-0 loss to Rivers Angels in the Nigeria Women Football League encounter at the Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

In a post match reaction, Adewuyi, though praised his girls for a brilliant performance against the defending champions, said poor officiating will continue to mar the development of female football in the country.

''Poor officiating is one of the problem of Nigerian League, the treating of referee was too much on her which means they want to win at all cost.

''It's part of the reasons that corporate bodies don't want to sponsor the female football, if a home team will want to win at all cost and she gave them their winning.

''Both teams played better but the contribution of the referee make us to loss the match," he lamented.

After a goalless first half, Rivers Angels broke the deadlock in the second half via a penalty after a Confluence Queens defender committed a foul committed inside the 18 yard box that left the center referee no option but to point to the spot.

Arit Itu converted the resultant penalty in the 47th minutes, to give the host a lead.

Defender, Osinachi Ohale nodded in  from close range in the 80th minute after connecting to a superb cross from Glory Iroka to extend the lead for the host.

Rivers Angels Coach Edwin Okon, on the other hand, was satisfied with the results he got over Confluence Queens

''I am happy with their play today, there is serious improvement in their play because Confluence Queens is not a  small team.

''I don't criticise the referee, because a lot of our coaches does not no know the rules of the game and it's giving us a serious problem.

''There is still room for improvement, we are not there yet, we lost about twelve players in the team, at least the last match I complained bitterly about their play but today am happy with their play."

Rivers Angel will travel to Delta Queens in the coming week as they seek to continue their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Women Football League.
