By Akeem Lawal Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo says the outcome of his meeting with the newly appointed Watford coach Walter Mazzarri will determine if he will be at the club next season or not.
The Nigerian international who scored 15 goals last
season and been a transfer target for different top clubs ahead of the coming
season, said he needs to know the plans of the new manager replaced Quique Sanchez Flores, before deciding his
next step.
“Every footballer’s dream is to play for one of the big
clubs in the world and I am looking forward to that. I still have contract with
Watford and I am happy there and the fans love me. When I go back I will talk
to my agent and talk to the club because we have a new coach and see what their
plans for me before I start to think about what is going to happen next season.
“Offers have been coming in for me from different clubs,
but I have to know what Watford wants and what the new coach wants from me
before I will decide if I’m staying or leaving.
The former Julius Berger and Granada striker said despite
having offers from top clubs, he will never force a move by submitting a
transfer request to the club.
“I can’t put a transfer request. This is because it is
Watford that made me and I can’t just turn my back now. I have every respect
for Watford, if they are ready to sell me, then I will go. I’m playing week-in,
week-out, so why should I turn-in transfer request and start fighting them, I
won’t do that.
“They gave me the opportunity to be where I am today,
playing 37 games the past season. So I can’t just turn my back now because one
team needs me.”
