ETI-OSA Local Government Chairman, Omoba Murphy Adebowale Adetoro has emphasised his commitment towards the development of football at grassroots, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
Omoba Adetoro gave the assurance during the presentation of trophies ahead of the final of the maiden edition of Under 13 Omoba Murphy Adetoro Cup 2017 held at the Eti-Osa Local Government secretariat on Thursday, August 10, 2017.
Omoba Murphy Adetoro, who was ably represented by the Vice-Chairman of the local government, Hon Omoba Adeola Adetoro said there is need to engage the youths positively and at the same time give them the avenue to showcase their hidden talents.
"As a sportsman himself, Omoba Murphy Adetoro can attest to the importance of sports in youth development. Football is physical and it helps with the full body development in youths.
"The advantage is not limited to physical capability alone, it also develops their social skills where lasting friendship are made from different walks of life. It develops their sportsmanship spirit which is self-control.
"As the saying goes, "An idle mind is the devils' workshop", this competition is meant to attract our youths in sports participation," the vice chairman said.
About N700,000 has been earmarked as total prize money for the winners of the competition organised by the Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association.
The overall winner will be rewarded with a cash prize of N250,000; second placed team will go home with N200,000; while the third and fourth placed teams will get 150,000 and N100,000 respectively for their efforts.
