NIGERIA’S senior women national team, D'Tigress won their
second game in the 2017 FIBA Women's Afrobasket tournament as they defeated Democratic
Republic of Congo 84-47 points on Saturday.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Atonye Nyingifa scored 13 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists,
Upe Atosu 12 points, while Nkechi Akashili added 11 points and 3 steals to help
D’Tigress secure their second straight win in a match played at the Palais des
Sports Salamatou Maiga, Bamako. The coach Sam Vincent side had overpowered Mozambique
80-69 for their first victory in Group B on Friday night.
In the other match of the group, Egypt defeated Guinea
109-78.
D’Tigress will continue with their quest to win the 23rd
edition of the tournament as they take on Egypt by 10:30 am on Sunday.
The team will then observe a 2-day break before slugging it
out with Guinea on Tuesday, 22nd and playing the defending champions, Senegal in the last group game the
following day.
The tournament will end on the 27th of August, 2017.
The winners and runners-up will qualify for the 2018 FIBA
Women's Basketball World Cup.
