IT was a mixed feeling for Super Eagles defender, Leon
Balogun after being sent off in a game that saw FSV Mainz 05 secure a vital 0-0
draw against relegation-rival Hamburger SV in a German Bundesliga match at the
Volksparkstadion on Saturday, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
The Nigeria international went into the referee’s record
book with a yellow card in the 34th minute for an elbow on Sven Schipplock
before conceding a spot kick for bundling over Luca Waldschmidt in the 61st
minute and was sent off with his second yellow card for the challenge.
Filip Kostic however failed to convert the resultant
penalty as Hamburg failed to make use of their one-man advantage for the final
half-hour.
Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr will no doubt be a
worried man as his central defence pairing of William Troost-Ekong and Leon
Balogun which is popularly referred to as “Oyinbo Wall” by a section of the
Nigerian populace, have been sent off during their club engagements within the
space of one week.
Recalled that Troost-Ekong was also sent off as Bursaspor
suffered a 5-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig clash last
weekend.
Both players are however expected to be called up by the
German tactician for Nigeria’s upcoming pre-World Cup friendlies against Poland
and Serbia.
