OPEIFA SCHOOLS HANDBALL: Archdeacon Adelaja emerges winner

ARCHDEACON Adelaja Senior High School, Bariga defeated Mainland Senior High School 13-12 in the final to emerge winner of the 2nd Opeifa Cup Lagos Secondary Schools Handball Championship held at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba last weekend.


The explosive match which ended 11-11 at normal regulation period before going into penalty shootout, saw Archdeacon Adelaja scored two while Mainland could only convert one, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports .

Ikosi Senior High School beat Barrel Avenue School in the 3rd place match to claim the 3rd position.

In the women category, Aiyetoro Girls beat CMS Girls to lift the trophy. For the junior male category, Herbert Macaulaly Junior School came first, Bariga junior High school was 2nd while Mobolaji Bank Anthony Junior Girls took the 3rd position.

In the junior girls level, Orile Girls Junior High School emerged first, St. Francis Junior  School came second and Bariga Girls Junior School came third.

Speaking at the end of the week long tournament, sponsor Comrade Kayode Opiefa, the immediate past Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State said he remained committed to the development of handball in the country.

While commending the sponsor for his commitment, the Chairman, Lagos State Handball Association, Adeola Opeifa said players that will represent the state at various competitions will be selected from this year’s edition of the Opeifa Cup.

 “Most of those we picked from Ibile Games represented us in a competition among six states in Abeokuta in February and Lagos State won the competition. So we will definitely be selecting the best from this edition of the Opeifa Cup into our state team,” she said.
