HEARTHLAND PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Oussou, Onuigbo, Ogbugh nominated

HEARTLAND'S trio of Anthony Oussou, Ifeanyi Onuigbo and Emeka Ogbugh has been nominated for the club’s Player of the Month award for the month of April.

The month under review saw the Naze Millionaires play six matches winning two, losing three and securing a draw in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). The team began the month losing 1-0 to Nasarawa United at the Aper Aku Stadium on April 7, before taking home advantage at the Dan Anyiam Stadium to beat Rivers United 2-1 three days later.

The Oweri-based club side continued with their poor form on the road losing 2-1 to 3SC at the Lekan Salami Stadium on April 16. Heartland return to Dan Anyiam Stadium on April 24 to secure a 1-0 slim victory over Sunshine Stars and three days later secure a valuable 1-1 draw with  Enyimba at the Aper Aku Stadium. 

The Alphonsus Dike led side however ended their campaign in April on a losing note, falling 3-1 to Ikorodu United at the Agege Stadium.

 Benin striker, Anthony Oussou played all the six games and made the POTM for April after scoring a total of three goals during this period. He netted in the victory over Rivers United and scored two away goals against 3SC and Ikorodu United.

Ifeanyi Onuigbo on the other hand played three of the games (against 3SC, Sunshine Stars and Enyimba) and his solitary strike just before the hour mark proved to be the winner to edged Sunshine at the Dan Anyiam Stadium. The Super Sand Eagles star also scored another vital goal away at Enyimba to help the team secure a point from the encounter.

Emeka Ogbugh also played in all the six games and his performance in the matches earned him a place on the list.  He did not score any goal in April but instead created goals for the strikers. He assisted Ajunwa in getting the winner against Rivers United and also provided the final pass for Onuigbo in getting the equaliser against Enyimba. He had a total of 2 assists in April.

Nelson Ogbonnaya was POTM for February, while Roland Koffi won the award for the month of March and the fans of the club have four days left to vote for their favourite player for the month of April on the club’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/heartlandfc.ng or Twitter account @HeartlandFC_ng.
