THE 2019 edition of the Prince Gas Cup, a grassroot
football tournament will kick off on October 19th, 2019 in Igando, a
suburb in Lagos.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that no fewer than 30
grassroot teams took part in the draws that was conducted on Friday.
Speaking after the draw, sponsor of the tourney,
Gbadamosi Adebola Sulaimon said: "I am delighted, though it’s been tough
coming this far as the Prince Gas Cup is in its 11th edition.
"The aims and objectives of the tourney is to give
these grassroot players and coaches a platform to exhibit their talents and
skills.
"To curb social vices among the youths in Igando and
other Local Government Development Areas (LCDA) as they will use the period to
channel their energies to doing meaningful things. Playing football or supporting
their respective teams as football is a universal sport and the talents are in grassroot.
"There will be handsome cash rewards, trophies,
medals and set of jerseys will be presented to the four best teams, while
players who showed brilliance on the pitch will go with individual awards.
"Three players who distinguish themselves in the
tourney will also have a chance to have trials with a top Nigeria Professional
Football League (NPFL) team."
The 30 teams were paired in six groups from A to F. Last
edition champion, Aje United will begin its title defense against Oluomo FC in
the opening game of the tourney.
