NIGERIA long jumper, Ese Brume was given a heroic welcome on her arrival in Northern Cyprus by her school, Eastern Mediterranean University from the just concluded 2019 World Athletics Championships in Qatar.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Brume, who is on a scholarship programme at the only public university located to the North of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, studying Tourism and Hospitality management, leapt to a distance of 6.91m to win bronze medal for Nigeria in women’s long jump event in Doha.

Sports personal/Manager of the university, Cemal Konnolu and his personal assistants led students who were in two fully loaded buses chartered to pick up the the Commonwealth Games champion at the Ercan Airport (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus).

In some short videos uploaded on the social media by Nigeria Athletics, a Track and Field website that specializes in athletics culture in Nigeria, saw some of the students displaying banners that reads “We are proud of you”, while some were singing "You're the best, you're the best Ese Brume...."

Speaking on arrival, an emotional Brume said, “I’m really lost for words. Thank you so much. You have done more than enough for me and I really appreciate this. Thank you so much and I love you all,” the 2019 African Games gold medalist said while trying to hold back joyful tears.

The website believes that the athlete will be more motivated ahead of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games if accorded such reception on arrival in Nigeria.

“Just look at the unbelievable joy on her face. Beside her is her coach, Kayode Yaya. In his words while chatting to us, he said: "This is the kind of welcome we may never receive from our nation!"

“If you're not close to tears after this, then you may not understand the joy of winning a medal and being appreciated for it. Imagine if she receives a better reception when she's in Nigeria, won't it motivate her more for 2020?,” the website posted alongside the videos via @NGAthletix.
