‘A Dream come true’ - World Athletics C’ship medal excites Ese Brume

NIGERIA’S long jump queen, Ese Brume says winning a medal at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha is a dream come true.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Brume ensured the country didn’t leave the championships empty handed by securing a bronze medal in the Women’s long jump event on the final day of the competition.

The African Games gold medalist made it to the podium having leapt to a distance of 6.91m to become the first Nigerian athlete to win a World Championships medal, since Blessing Okagbare’s Silver and Bronze medals six years ago in Moscow.

Germany’s Malaika Mihambo jumped a massive Personal Best and world leading distance of 7.30m to win the gold, while Ukraine’s Maryna Romanchuk jumped 6.92m to deny Brume the silver medal.

Speaking after her new feat, the three-time African senior champion, who finished 5th at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games said, “
This is a dream comes true. I wish I can express my feelings. I am super excited and grateful to God, this is a big one for me.

“I’ll say that all my hard work and commitments has paid off. He is the one that has put the big smile on my face.”

Brume lead after the first two jumps before she was overtaken for the first two places.

“I was nervous at first but I kept praying that God should take me there because He has brought me this far and He did it. I am excited about it.

“I’m dedicating this medal to God, my coach Mr Kayode Yaya, my team EMU athletics and the Winners Shepherd,” the former Commonwealth Games champion said.

Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan narrowly missed out to finish in the medals position as she finished 4th in 100m women hurdles.
