SUNSHINE Stars head coach, Kabir Suleiman Dogo believes his
side’s 1-0 victory over Kwara United in the NPFL matchday 13 at the Akure
Township Stadium will increase their winning mentality in the coming games.
Michael Egbeta’s 60th minute strike proved to be enough
for the Owena Whales to return to winning ways after being held to a draw in
their last two home games against Bendel Insurance and Enyimba.
The heated contest saw Sunshine’s Ajibola Otegbeye and
Kwara United’s Andrew Ikefe given matching orders for an off-the-ball incident,
while the home side was also reduced to 9 men after captain Sunday Abe was sent
off for a second bookable offence.
In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com, Dogo said the
red card made it difficult for his team to score more goals.
“I will say congratulations to my side, Sunshine Stars
because it is a hard earned victory. We needed this victory anyhow in order to
bring confidence back into the team. Now that we have achieved that, you will
se a lot of changes in the team.
“For the past two matches here, we’ve not been gotten the
right results even though the team played well in those games. So I have to
appreciate the boys, the management and the crowd for the support. This is what
I want from Akure people. At least they should come together and fight for the
interest of the team, not fighting themselves because that has been affecting
the team. I believe with the new peace in town now and if we join hands
together, this team will move forward.
“Playing at home, the pressure from home fans and coupled
with the red cards, you can see that it is not easy. The cards reduced the
strength of the team because our plan was to go for two to three goals but
unfortunately those red cards reduced the strength of the team. At the same
time I have to commend the efforts of the boys in sustaining the tempo,” Dogo
told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
