ENYIMBA forward, Reuben Bala
has admitted rather ruefully that his side underrated their Nigeria Professional
Football League matchday 14 clash opponents and newcomers, Bendel Insurance.
The People’s Elephant and
seven-time champions were held to a barren draw by the ‘Benin Arsenals’ at
their slaughter ground – Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Sunday.
In a chat with Sportsbiz47.blogspot.com, Bala said the unusual result
is a huge set back to his side dreamed quest to take over the leadership of the
group a position held firmly by the Lagos side, MFM FC.
“We must have underrated the
opponents, Bendel Insurance and now we have paid dearly for it. Nobody expected
that type of result not even now all our plans were to take over the leadership
of the group.
“We missed the opportunity
in the score draw at MFM FC in Lagos and here we are again missing the golden
opportunity right at our backyard.
“Well, we still have
something to take away from the game, it could have been worst if we had lost
the match.
“Aside, the barren draw our
performance was good and fantastic, we had glaring chances to win the game but
we did not make good use of the chances. Insurance put up a good fight and
actually gave a good account of themselves, they truly deserved the point taken
from the match.
“Nobody is happy with the
result as a win would have taken us to the top of the group. Now we are third
on the log behind leaders, MFM FC and Enugu Rangers. I can say we played well
but our best was not good enough to give us the desired result.
“We are not relenting rather
we will fight harder in the next matches to reclaim the points as well as push further to the top,” the
former Plateau United goal poacher told Sportsbiz47.blogspot.com.
Enyimba are third on the
12-team abridged NPFL Group A log on 21 points two behind group’s leaders, MFM
FC.
