The 2019 Nigeria National
League, NNL gets underway on Wednesday across the country.
Kogi United who have been
grouped in A2 following the new league format will commence their promotion
aspiration with a home clash against Yarmalight FC from Gombe.
The match is billed for
Confluence Stadium, Lokoja by 4pm.
Kogi United will hope to get
their new campaign to a bright start as they intend to go a step further than
their last season's streak where they finished third in the Super 8 Promotion
Playoffs of the Northern Conference.
Head Coach of the Confluence
State team, Tunde Abdulrahman said the club is fully prepared for the season
haven fulfilled the necessary preseason obligations just as he called for
continuous supports from club's faithfuls.
"I think we are ready
for the season and we intend to get it right this time by picking the top spot
for playoffs, but it need to start with the first game which is very important
we win it.
"We've put what
happened last season behind us, we've pick the positives from it and have
worked on the shortcomings, I think we've done well in recruitment and
preparation so I'm hopeful it will be a good season for us with luck and God's
favour on our side," he said.
Kogi United have met
Yarmalight twice in the NNL winning one and drawn one.
Their last meeting between
both sides was in 2016 NNL which United won 2-1 in Lokoja, the result which
confirmed United's status in second tier division and also condemned
Yarmalight's status to the amateur division.
